Big-budgeted portrait of German Army Field Marshal Rommel, played by Mason, focuses on the soldier's defeat in Africa during WWII and his subsequent, disillusioned return to Hitler's Germany. Mason played Rommel again in 1953's "Desert Rats."
So-So War Movie with Moving Acting ReelVideoMan at 2009-07-04 15:03:21
While boasting great acting on the part of James Mason as the famed German general Erwin Rommel. The movie does a good job of getting the viewer to feel sympathetic to Rommel for his torn allegiance to both Germany and to do that which is noble. The problem is that it seems to drag it's feet which is not good in an 88 minute movie. Deals mostly with his inner battle than with his battles on the field. If your wanting a movie filled with glorious scences of battle then go elsewhere, however if you want a moving character study stay put.
