Captain Colter Stevens (Gyllenhaal) becomes part of a government experiment in which he can enter another human body for the last eight minutes of their life. Stevens must gather information about the person who bombed a Chicago commuter train, figure out who masterminded the plot, and where the next attack will take place, but only by returning to that same moment again and again.
