When Bonnie (Hope) gets a phone call from her husband Ross's (Bancroft) drunken ex Joan (Arden) about being in danger, she dismisses it until Joan is found murdered. Joan's death means that Bonnie's surly stepchildren Lauren (Maxwell) and Sam (Liboiron) come to live with them. Meanwhile, the cops investigate and Bonnie's criminal brother Nick (Priestley) suddenly shows up to complicate matters further. Adapted from the Joy Fielding novel.
