Based on the controversial disclosure of Valerie Plame's (Watts) identity as a covert CIA operative by a Washington, D.C. journalist. Plame was outed after her diplomat husband, Joseph Wilson (Penn), wrote a 2003 New York Times op-ed criticism of the Bush administration's involvement in perpetuating questionable information about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. Highly subjective but compelling portrayal of modern politics that inspires as much controversy as the events it portrays. Tone is inconsistent at times but the excellent performances of Watts and Penn manage to overcome.
