Stone gives a dazzling performance as exasperated, overlooked smart teen Olive (Stone), who tells a lie about losing her virginity that happens to be overheard by ultra-conservative Marianne (Bynes) who self-righteously gossips the story all over school. Olive then decides to embrace her notoriety and help other misfits improve their social standing. Nathaniel Hawthorne's "A Scarlet Letter" figures prominently. Refreshing alternative to the usual teen fare.
