A cold-blooded weapons-making assassin goes soft in this adaptation of the Martin Booth novel "A Very Private Gentleman." Knowing he's being hunted, Jack (Clooney) hides out in the Italian countryside. His lone wolf instincts are changed when he indulges the interest of Father Benedetto (Bonacelli) and moves from a client relationship with hooker Clara (Placido) to something more emotional. Neither situation is very believable but Clooney can certainly sell the cool.
