Inspirational--without being sentimental--true story of Temple Grandin (Danes), who is diagnosed with autism in the 1950s when doctors recommended institutionalization. Instead, Temple's mother Eustacia (Ormond) is determined that she will be mainstreamed, including going to college. Temple, who thinks visually, becomes fascinated by cattle and earns a Ph.D in animal science while dealing with various cruelties (including sexism). Danes gives a stirring performance without resorting to caricature behavior.
