Thompson makes for a bland sociopath in this grim MGM suspenser whose title refers to an emergency police phone number. Gunther escapes from a mental hospital determined to kill police shrink Dr. Faron (Levene), who had him committed. He stops by a bar and, after the bartender (Conrad) recognizes Gunther from a TV broadcast, he takes the bar patrons hostage while the cops try to negotiate. Flick uses television newscasts to effectively further the action.
