Flaking out on his job and family, New York architect Gabriel (Hutton) undergoes a generic midlife crisis and focuses on writing a play about his existential dilemma. If that weren't bad enough, he turns to alcohol for inspiration and slowly convinces himself that he's in love with his childhood friend, Cari (Sorvino). Nearly obsessive detail is spent crafting a perfect 1979 decor, but unfortunately Gabriel is an annoyingly self-centered bore with zero of the charisma writer/director Branch intended. Self-indulgent rather than a witty, self-aware drama.
