Russian conductor Andrei Filipov (Guskov) lost his job with the Bolshoi in the 1980s after championing Jewish musicians. Long-reduced to being the hall's janitor, he sees a second chance when he intercepts a desperate request from Paris theater director Olivier (Berleand) to have the orchestra step in for a cancelled performance. So Andrei recruits his own group of ragtag musicians, travels to Paris, and then insists on engaging young, beautiful French violinist Anne-Marie (Laurent), whose connection to the Russians is gradually revealed. French and Russian with subtitles.
