Disappointingly shallow biopic of heavyweight boxing champ Sonny Liston that does have a compelling lead performance from Rhames. The ex-con is allegedly a mob-backed, cheating husband with a controversial career thanks to a possible dive (the so-called 'phantom punch') when he loses his title to Cassius Clay in 1965. However, director Townsend never really gives you a sense of the man or where Liston stands in boxing history.
