Lady of the Night

Romantic melodrama with Shearer getting to shine in two showy roles. Orphaned reform school goodtime gal Molly is at the dancehall with her pal Chunky (Arthur) when she's rescued from a lout by aspiring inventor David Page (McGregor). It's Molly, who's fallen for nice guy David, who suggests that he peddle his latest invention to a bank, which is indirectly how he meets refined finishing school grad Florence. David falls for her but then Florence learns of Molly's interest. Notable since neither woman is depicted as a competitive shrew or undeserving of the love of a good man.
