David Talbot (Powell) is a rising French diplomat, living in 1935 Paris with his bride Lucienne (Lamarr). David suddenly starts receiving blackmail letters, accusing him of being wanted criminal Jean Pelletier. The bewildered man goes to the police who trap Carlos Le Duc (Sokloff) who's then put on trial. When Henri Sarrou (Rathbone) testifies on David's behalf, David finds his intentions are insincere leaving him baffled. Hollywood remake of the 1938 French thriller "Carrefour."
