Made-for-British TV with Hurt reprising his role as gay raconteur Quentin Crisp from 1975's "The Naked Civil Servant." Crisp moves to New York in 1981 at the age of 72, works on a one-man stage show, and writes for a gay magazine. However, after the aged contrarian quips that AIDS is a 'fad,' many in the gay community turn on him (especially after he refuses to apologize) despite his quiet support for various AIDS charities. Crisp still carried on and died in 1999 in England while preparing for a tour.
