Cast wins out in this charmingly sunlit BBC adaptation of the Austen novel with Garai bright and well-meaning (if self-absorbed) in the title role. Wealthy Emma Woodhouse believes she has a future as a matchmaker but her efforts nearly cause a social disaster for new (and poor) friend Harriet Smith (Dylan) when Emma discourages a marriage proposal from someone she deems unsuitable. No wonder acerbic neighbor Mr. Knightley (Miller) finds Emma both exasperating and amusing. Of course neither can admit to a romantic attraction to each other.
