A frantic backstage--and onstage--musical that cuts between the behind the scenes efforts to manage the make-or-break production that is in rehearsals during an out-of-town tryout. Has a classic showbiz cliche of the diva leading lady refusing to perform so the chorus girl goes on instead. Ethel Waters debuts what would become her signature tune 'Am I Blue?' Filmed in two-strip Technicolor but those prints have been lost.
