Gena Rowlands deserved her Emmy for her strong portrayal of First Lady Betty Ford in this adaptation of Ford's autobiography "The Times of My Life." Ford earns national admiration for her candid reveal of her breast cancer and subsequent treatment but she hides her addictions to alcohol and prescription drugs. After her husband (Sommer) loses his 1976 reelection bid, her family intervenes and Betty gets clean, then decides to open her own center for substance abusers.
