Yet another young-love soap opera from the well of Nicholas Sparks, whose diminishing returns continue with every adaptation. Rebellious teen Veronica Miller (Cyrus, who reportedly asked to play the role) is sent by her mother to Tybee Island, Georgia to stay with her divorced dad Steve (Kinnear), a former concert pianist, for the summer. The two have been estranged but they find common ground because of their mutual love of music. Along the way, Veronica finds love and faces tragedy and learns hard lessons, all set to an endless parade of music montages. Kinnear gives this featherweight movie the slightest bit of heft, but Cyrus seems outmatched by the material.
