Outlaw Wes McQueen (McCrea) breaks out of jail, vowing to go straight. Instead, he winds up back with his old partner Rickard (Ruysdael). He agrees to a last job railroad heist with Rickard's new gang, which includes former dance-hall dame Colorado (Mayo), and the chivalrous Wes decides to protect Colorado from his shifty cohorts.
