The Stoning of Soraya M.
Blunt and brutal drama (based on a true story) that takes place in flashbacks. French-Iranian journalist Feredoune Sahebjam's (Caviezel) car breaks down in an Iranian village. While he waits for it to be fixed, distraught Zahra (Aghdashloo) tells him about the murder of her niece, Soraya (Marno). Unhappy in an arranged marriage, she refuses to divorce her husband because he is her only means of support. Because he wants to marry a more-compliant teenager, he accuses Soraya of adultery and persuades the local mullah to issue the ultimate medieval punishment--death by stoning. English and Farsi with subtitles.
