Lavish historical/romantic drama. Lower-class Emma Hart (Griffith) falls for the charms of aristocrat Charles Greville (Keith) but when he becomes embarrassed by her, Charles readily passes her off to his enamored uncle William Hamilton (Warner), the British ambassador to Naples. Hamilton marries Emma and she becomes instrumental in getting the ships of British fleet commander Nelson (Varconi), who is battling Napoleon, resupplied. Nelson and Emma fall in love, but their adulterous relationship causes a scandal when they return to England. The E. Barrington novel was remade as 1941's "That Hamilton Woman."
