Cockney Old Bill (Chaplin) is a WWI private with the British infantry. Bill and his mate Alfie (Ackroyd) must find the traitor in their ranks who is responsible for a French town falling to the Germans. Based on cartoon characters created by Bruce Bairnsfather, with the title referring to a foxhole. Some of the humor is blunted by the passage of time, although the visual of Chaplin and Ackroyd in a horse's costume is still amusing.
