Vivid biography of French primitive painter Seraphine Louis (Moreau), a middle-aged domestic living in the small town of Senalis in pre-WWI France. Her precious free time is spent painting fruit and flowers with the limited amount of paint she can afford supplemented with animal's blood, dirt, and other substances. German art critic Wilhelm Uhde (Tukur) is shocked by the power of her work after seeing one of her paintings and promptly becomes Seraphine's champion in the art world. They are reunited in the 1920s (Seraphine paints throughout the war) but her mental deterioration leads to an unhappy end. French and German with subtitles.
