Lavish--if melodramatic--biopic of the French fashion designer (played by Boblova and MacLaine). Story begins in 1954 with the aged Chanel seemingly irrelevant after a disastrous comeback attempt. Then it flashes back to the 1910s when the young Coco leaves the orphanage for work as a seamstress. Brashly appealing, Chanel is soon persuading her wealthy male admirers to fund her fashion ambitions as she negotiates two world wars and various romantic dilemmas.
