Stellar performances from both Barrymore and Lange in a cable flick that was inspired by the 1973 documentary by the Maysles brothers, with director Michael Sucsy devotedly recreating a number of scenes. In the 1930s, vivacious 'Big Edie' Beale (Lange) is a party-thrower par excellence while her teenaged daughter 'Little Edie' (Barrymore) wants to be a starlet. As the years roll by, resources dwindle, eccentricities (and co-dependence) grow, and their East Hampton mansion becomes unlivable. In the early 1970s, things get so bad that the authorities raid the place and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis (Tripplehorn), a relative, makes an ultimately unsuccessful attempt to help the recluses.
