This remake of Fritz Lang's 1956 legal thriller gets an updated treatment but loses the pacing, suspense and intrigue of the original. The magnificently coifed Martin Hunter (Douglas) is a Louisiana DA suspected by newcomer TV reporter from New York, CJ Nichols (Metcalfe) of planting evidence to pad his conviction rate. To get the goods on the DA, Nichols acts the part of accused perp of an unsolved murder, thinking he'll trap Hunter while planting bogus evidence. Things don't quite work out as planned and the film never fully explores its chance to shine a light on judicial corruption, instead skimming the surface with car chases and Hunter's super-fine hairdo.
