Sin Nombre

Teenager Sayra (Gaitan) lives in Honduras but hungers for a brighter future, leading her to illegally emigrate with her estranged father into Mexico and then the United States. Meanwhile, teenager Casper, a.k.a. Willy (Flores) from Tapachula, Mexico, faces a bleak future as a member of the ultra-violent Mara Salvatrucha gang and joins the family after murdering his gang's leader. A gripping tale of the wretched circumstances that drive people from Central America into the "land of opportunity" in hopes of a better life despite the dangers and sacrifices that accompany such a harrowing journey. An excellent debut from writer/director Fukunaga.
