Bored law school dropout Troy (Hanks the younger) takes a job as personal assistant to small-time illusionist Buck Howard (Malkiovich), much to the chagrin of his father (Hanks the elder). Troy and Buck bond on the road and soon an entry-level publicist (Blunt) joins them, set to help launch Howard's comeback with an "amazing stunt," but the results aren't what anyone expected.
