Really, did Baron Cohen actually think this character was funny or was he merely being smug and cynical? After "Borat," it's time to retire this shtick of a ridiculously stupid--or in this case, flamboyant and stupid--staged character intersecting with 'real' people and situations. Over-the-top gay Austrian fashionista Bruno heads to L.A. to become a 'superstar' though, like some reality TV show participant, he lacks any talent except that of relentless self-promotion. The sexual content is constantly crude rather than provocative. Erratic, nausea-inducing, and takes a turn for the nasty.
