Professor Eli Michaelson (Rickson) was an egomaniacal jerk before being awarded the Nobel Prize in chemistry. Now, he's completely insufferable. So much so that he is uncaring when his only son Barkley (Greenberg), whom Eli regards as a complete disappointment, is kidnapped, and he won't pay the ransom. The abductor is no secret--Thaddeus James (Hatosy) is a mechanical genius claiming to be Eli's illegitimate son and he tries to force Barkley into aiding him in his revenge/extortion plot. However the characters are so tedious (as is the unfolding of the action) that it's hard to stay interested.
