A pastoral romance, set in a mythic 5th-century Gaul, based on the 17th-century novel by Honore d'Urfe. Shepherd Celadon (Gillet) is in love with shepherdess Astrea (Crayencour). But she is led to believe (falsely) that he has been unfaithful and banishes Celadon, who promptly tries to drown himself. He is saved by nymph Galathee (Reymoud), who wants him for herself. Celadon sulks until a druid (Renko) persuades him to dress in drag so he can befriend Astrea. Although the courtly discourse is frequently amusing, the artificial setting and subject will probably be of interest to Rohmer fans only. French with subtitles.
