Steve (Jones), the lazybones of the title, likes nothing better than to nap, but he steps up when desperate Ruth (Pitts) is forced to give up her daughter Kit (Marsall), and he raises the girl despite small town scandal. After returning from WWI, Steve figures out he's in love with the now-adult Kit (Bellamy) but his mother (Chapman) helps him realize it's not meant to be.
