Wounded by the promise of an athletic career derailed by injury, Dave Johnson (Chestnut) now toils as a remodeling contractor in the shadow of his wife Clarice (Henson), a successful real estate agent garnering a hefty salary. Clarice and her live-in mom (Lewis) don't miss a beat in pointing out Dave's shortfalls, which places the marriage under constant strain. To escape, Dave coaches Little League and hangs out with his buddies until Clarice is injured in an auto accident, and Dave finds himself smitten by Clarice's single-mom physical therapist. Based on the book by T.D. Jakes, this marriage melodrama's attempt in spreading the bishop's theological message into the mainstream falls flat with zip for character development and a plodding, predictable plot.
