Spendthrift, debt-ridden fashionista New Yorker Rebecca Bloomwood (Fisher) ironically becomes a celebrity after getting a job as the advice columnist for a new financial magazine. But her intemperate ways threaten both her new career and new romance. It doesn't bode well for a pic to be on the losing end of a comparison to Sex and the City, but that about sums up this popcorn puff piece. A mindless chick-flick that banks on unbridled, inconspicuous spending as humor would be a tough sell on a good day but during a recession it's downright insulting. Fisher is easy on the eyes but everything else is utterly painful. Based on the chick lit series by Sophie Kinsella.
