Comedian/talk show host Maher and director Charles' documentary (of sorts) revolves around Maher's ultimate disdain of organized religions, including Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Mormonism and Scientology. On the surface, Maher attempts to apply thoughtful reason to issues of faith--but reason is just a launch pad for his typical sharp-witted skewering of willing ignorance and delusional acceptance of what appear to be, to him at least, ridiculous fairy tales. One-sided and at times both hilarious and offensive, it all becomes a little frightening when he begins drawing his larger conclusion: that these absurd belief systems have been responsible for the world's conflict, division, war, and suffering and perhaps will eventually push us into mutually-assured annihilation. A must for Maher fans, although certain to cheese off the devout.
