The title perfectly describes the lead, ever-optimistic London schoolteacher Poppy, who finds a silver lining no matter the situation. Her attitude leads her to romance, but she's tested by an obsessive, abusive driving instructor. Sounds simple, but it's actually a sophisticated character study with insidious charm. Director Leigh's famously morose mood couldn't be more different in this feel-good comedy about feeling good (without aid of chemicals). Poppy's cheerful disposition and perpetually rosy outlook are strangely contagious and not grating, thanks largely to Hawkins' memorable turn.
