Ben Carson (Sutherland), embattled on nearly every personal front, takes a job as night watchman at a burned out department store while suspended from the NYPD, estranged from his wife (Patton) and children (Gluck and Boyce), and struggling to defeat alcoholism. So is it any surprise that no one wants to believe his story of haunted mirrors? The malevolent spirits go after Carson's wife and kids, rendering some of the most disturbing scenes. Director Aja manages to mix in a little psychological thriller with the ample gore in this K-Horror remake. Tracks along the expected path, except perhaps the false endings, which are more annoying than shocking. Genre fans only here.
