Two best friends, Vicky (Hall), the stable engaged one, and Cristina (Johansson), the risk-taking impulsive one, decide to spend the summer in Barcelona at the home of Vicky's relatives, Judy and Mark (Clarkson and Dunn). Both are drawn to an eccentric local artist, Juan Antonio (Bardem), and eventually they are charmed into considering a shared romance with the smooth-talker. They're unaware, however, that he is still passionately (and violently) involved with his tempestuous ex-wife (Cruz). Similar in theme and style with most of Woody Allen's later work; as always, Allen's characters speak intelligently and never follow the Hollywood formulas. Cruz infuses the otherwise languid film with needed spark.
