A mostly-based-on-real-life story taken from an historic 1976 blind wine competition arranged by wine elitist Englishman Steven Spurrier (Rickman) and his struggling Parisian wine business, pitting French wines against the unsung vineyards of California's Napa Valley, including former lawyer Jim Barrett's (Pullman) Chateau Montelena. While Jim clashes with his surfer son Bo (Pine, sporting a disturbingly unrealistic wig), Bo vies with his friend and coworker Gustavo (Rodriguez) for the attention of intern Samantha (Taylor). Though the contest's outcome is expected and the general pace is slow, director Miller ably squeezes out some patriotism-inspired moments.
