Lavishly photographed period piece about Brits behaving badly in India. In 1937, spice baron Henry Moores (Roache) plans to build a road that will help expand his business but it needs to be completed before monsoon season. His right-man man T.K. (Bose) smooths the way but Moores is having an affair with married housemaid Sajani (Das), whose suspicious husband (Paul) beats her. When Sajani comes to Moores for help, he coldly turns her over to the loyal T.K. to deal with, causing more turmoil and eventual tragedy.
