Singer/saxophonist Ronnie Bowers (Powell) wins a talent contest with a prize of a Hollywood film contract. When diva Mona (Lola Lane) refuses to attend her movie premiere, Ronnie escorts her stand-in Virginia (Rosemary Lane) and they fall in love. Ronnie learns he's dubbing the singing for actor Alex (Mowbray) in a film with Mona, but when Alex is supposed to sing on Louella Parson's radio program, Ronnie refuses to go along. Thanks to some showbiz maneuvers, Ronnie goes on the show himself and becomes a hit. The Berkeley-directed musical features Johnny Mercer's industry anthem "Hooray for Hollywood."
