A comedy that forgoes being twee and twinkly despite the presence of a leprechaun. Hard-boiled reporter Stephen Fitzgerald (Power) takes a trip to Ireland and gets stuck at a rural inn when his car breaks down. Owner Nora (Baxter) tells him local legends about leprechauns and their pot o' gold and when he spots a strange man (Kellaway), he follows him and jokingly demands his treasure. Stephen's so surprised when the gold actually appears that he refuses it, so the leprechaun then owes Stephen a favor. When he returns to New York, Stephen takes a speech writing job with right-wing publisher Auger (Cobb) who's going into politics. An apartment and a valet come with the deal and Stephen's shocked when Horace the valet looks exactly like his leprechaun.
