A notable cast in a story that's sentimental and somewhat familiar. In 1945, Jewish dissident Jakob protected youngsters Melanie and Christopher when they were all interred at a detention camp outside Paris. After 35 years, the trio is unexpectedly reunited at Melanie's (Sarandon) rural home in Quebec, where she lives unhappily with husband David (Plummer). Christopher (Byrne) has never gotten over his first love for Melanie and the strong emotional bonds of the past prove to be equally potent in the present.
