Morris's extremely disturbing and morose documentary examines the story behind the infamous photographs out of Abu Ghraib, which portrayed U.S. guards torturing and degrading Iraqi prisoners by posing them in humiliating sexual positions, dressing them up in costumes, and inflicting other indignities. Descriptions by members of the prison's MP squad and reenactments serve to reveal the motivation behind these bizarre acts, which play out as chillingly as any contemporary thriller.
