Zach (Wright) delays his dreams of going to art school to care for his five-year-old nephew Cody (Wurth) since his manipulative single mom sister Jeanne (Holmes) is so irresponsible. Feeling stuck in San Pedro, Zack likes to go surfing and hooks up with Shaun (Rowe), the older brother of his best friend Gabe (Thomas). An L.A.-based writer, Shaun is taking an extended break and is only too happy to spend time with Zach. And he's really happy to help Zach figure out that they can be more than friends.
