This Hallmark Hall of Fame production leaves itself with an unresolved ending after an often dramatic and contentious situation. Dan (Daniels), who can hear, is married to Laura (Matlin), who is deaf. Their eight-year-old son Adam (Valencia) lost his own hearing at age five and a doctor is now recommending Adam as a candidate for cochlear implants that could restore some of his hearing. This alarms Laura and irritates her activist deaf parents, who don't think their grandson needs to be fixed. The situation gets so bad that the Millers separate and begin a custody battle for Adam. Voiceovers are used to translate the sign language. Adapted by Sachs from his play.
