BBC version of E.M. Forster's 1908 novel leaves a bad taste thanks to an unfortunate coda added by writer Davies, allegedly from later material by Forster. Prim (but secretly passionate) Lucy Honeychurch (Cassidy) is touring Italy with her fluttery chaperone Charlotte (Thompson). In Florence they meet garrulous working-class Mr. Emerson and his son George (played by the father/son Spalls) and Lucy is tempted into unexpected romance with the totally unsuitable young man. Lucy's terribly conflicted, weighed down by others' expectations, but will she follow her heart?
