The French title is slang for the type of pulp literature sold in railway stations for waiting travelers to pass the time. In this just-as-pulpy thriller, successful crime novelist Judith (Ardant) is being interrogated about her connection to a serial killer called the Magician, who has escaped from prison. Only it turns out that Judith's books are ghostwritten--possibly by the mysterious Louie (Pinon). And what does Louie want from unhappy hairdresser Huguette (Dana), who's just been abandoned by her boyfriend at a highway service station? Is he looking for a ride, romance, or a new victim? Ah, fate makes fools of us all. French with subtitles.
