True story plays like an inspirational movie of the week but is not without its appeal. Richard Pimentel (Livingston) has always wanted to be a public speaker; instead he winds up fighting in Vietnam where he loses most of his hearing in a bomb blast. He returns home, goes to college, and makes an unlikely connection with acerbic Art Honeyman (Sheen), who's wheelchair-bound because of cerebral palsy. Both are discriminated against and ostracized because of their disabilities, which leads Richard to his work as a motivational speaker and one of the leading advocates for what will become the Americans With Disabilities Act.
