Story goes off the rails as does its lead character. After serving as a missionary in Africa, Reverend Gabriel Hunter (Macfayden) returns to his small Irish hometown to take up his new pastoral duties. He's shocked to find various vices are prevalent and that his black sheep brother Jim (Mays) and Jim's pregnant wife Caroline (Birthistle) are no exceptions. The fanatical Gabriel becomes even more zealous, determined to save the souls of the town's inhabitants whether they want him to or not.
